Things to do

Thames and its surrounding areas have much to offer. There are horse treks a short drive up the Kauaeranga Valley, and while you are there visit the DOC centre, and maybe take on the Pinnacles bushwalk. Or be amazed at the Butterfly & Orchid Gardens.

Soak up some heritage at the gold mines, museums, Thames Treasury Building. What about getting involved in some adventure at the local aerodrome? Tandem parachuting, gliding, and next to the Aerodrome is the Thames Rifle Range. How about a spot of golf? And the list still goes on! The Rapaura Water Gardens, Rail Trail Cycleway, Miniature Railway, or just relax at Saturday's markets with great art and craft, delicious smoked fish, fresh salami, and cheeses, fruit, hot yummy food sizzling for your enjoyment, and lots of shops to rummage through.

Just out of town are Sculptured Metals, Matatoki Cheese Farm and Piako Ostrich Farm. A day trip can include Coromandel town, The Waterworks and Driving Creek Railway. Carve your own bone sculptures at Bay Carving, then pop over to Whitianga and indulge in some Cave Cruzing, get pampered at The Lost Springs, or visit Cathedral Cove. Then follow the loop back to lovely Tairua, then over to Pauanui on the ferry, discover the quaint township before completing the round trip back to Thames.

We have some great entertainment on every week in Thames, warm welcoming restaurants and character-filled bars. Alternatively, you can kick back and relax by soaking away your stress at the Miranda Hot Pools.
